Laboratory Technician – Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District is seeking a laboratory technician to perform general laboratory analysis and duties normally associated with a laboratory environment. Work is performed in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations, to ensure compliance needs. This is technical work that requires the application of prescribed laboratory procedures in the operation and quality control of a wastewater treatment plant treating domestic and industrial wastewater. This position performs routine and complex technical level examinations of samples to monitor the effectiveness of the processes of the treatment plant and ensure quality of operation standards are obtained and maintained. Work will be done under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor.
Requirements:
- Any combination of education equivalent to an associate degree in chemistry, biology, or environmental science and a minimum of some experience in performing laboratory tests
- General knowledge of modern laboratory techniques, materials, and equipment, including those used in standard chemical and biochemical analysis
- General knowledge of the principles of organic and inorganic chemistry
- Applicant must possess or have the ability to obtain a Grade I Biological wastewater operator certification and/or Grade I Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification.
- Ability to effectively communicate with customers, supervisors, and co-workers tactfully and courteously
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Driver’s License valid in the State of NC

Maintenance Electrician/Mechanic II
Central Maintenance Department
The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District is currently accepting applications for a Maintenance Electrician/Mechanic II. This position assists in the preventive and corrective maintenance of water and wastewater systems. Rebuilds and repairs a wide variety of equipment, including pumps, gear reducers, engines, valves, electric motors, switch gears, conveyors, drive units, process systems units, power maintenance machinery, vehicles, and other units. Operate equipment, machinery, and power tools associated with the maintenance of water and sewer systems. Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills are essential, and one must possess these skills to be effective in this area without further skills training. Strong skills, including electrical print reading and solid mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic, and PLC knowledge are desired. Also performs carpentry, painting, welding, grass cutting, snow plowing, and other tasks as required. Progressive industrial maintenance experience in performing electrical, instrumentation, and maintenance tasks on various equipment, machinery, and systems is strongly preferred. Graduation from a technical program related to electrical, welding, engine repair, millwright, machinist, or other related trade is strongly preferred. Candidate must be experienced with computerized documentation. Requires on-call duty including some evenings, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must possess driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
