Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor and Pretreatment Coordinator to perform technical scientific and supervisory work in managing a State certified laboratory through chemical and bacteriological analyses and in implementation and enforcement of regulations pertaining to the quality of domestic, commercial, and industrial wastewater discharges. Work is performed in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, to ensure compliance needs. This position performs complex technical level examinations of samples to monitor the effectiveness of the processes of the treatment plant and ensure quality of operation standards are obtained and maintained. Supervises laboratory personnel. Work will be done under the general supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC). 

Requirements:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in chemistry, environmental science, biological sciences or related field and six months laboratory experience in analytical chemistry or two-year associate degree from an accredited college, university or technical institute in the science field with two years managing a certified laboratory
  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern laboratory techniques, materials, and equipment, including those used in standard chemical and biochemical analysis
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of organic and inorganic chemistry
  • Ability to manage multiple industrial facility wastewater operations via permitting, sampling, monitoring, inspections, compliance and enforcement
  • Applicant must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a Grade IV Biological wastewater operator certification and/or Grade II Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, industries, supervisors, and co-workers tactfully and courteously
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Driver’s License valid in the State of NC

Full Salary Range:  $29.27 - $44.64 Hourly

Distribution and Collection System Foreman - Posted 05/20/2026 


The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District is seeking a Distribution and Collection System Foreman.  This position is responsible for the supervision of a crew engaged in construction and maintenance of water distribution and sewer collection mains; operation of heavy equipment to include rubber tire backhoe, mini excavator, and skid steer; traffic control per MUTCD; and trenching and shoring safety. Position may also include the operation of a dual engine combination vac truck, CCTV equipment, and sewer jetter. Prompt and courteous public contact is required notifying and in answering customer questions regarding interruption of water and/or sewer services. Tasks include connecting and disconnecting water service, investigating reported problems, and repairing water line service leaks and main breaks. An employee in this position is also responsible for maintaining safety on the job, inspecting their vehicle daily and maintaining tools and supplies on the vehicle. This position is subject to on-call and call-back work, hazards of confined space and working in various weather conditions.
Position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED and three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Possession of driver license valid in NC required, CDL is preferred. The successful applicant must be able to obtain North Carolina Grade B Distribution and Grade II Collection certifications within two (2) years of employment. FLSA - Non-Exempt.
